Class Activity Day

This was the first time Year 6 had experienced ‘Activity Day’. Different classes went to different places; some went to the beach while others went for a picnic. Three classes chose to have a BBQ at various places around Hong Kong. No matter where people went, they all enjoyed the day and overall it was felt that the Year 6 Activity Day was quite successful.

Interview

Yolanda from 6D: “I felt happy but tired. I also appreciate that my classmates cooperated during the trip. I think our Activity Day was pretty successful but I just wish the boys could play more gently on the beach. Overall, I enjoyed the trip and I think that our class enjoyed it too.”

It was an exciting outdoor class Activity Day on the 7th of November. All the Year 6 classes chose fantastic and fun places to gather and share wonderful moments together. 6A went to Tai Mei Tuk, 6B went to Inspiration Lake Recreation Centre, 6C went to Shek O, 6D went to Ma Wan, while 6E and F went to the Peak.

An interviewee from 6B said that they had an amazing day at the Inspiration Lake Recreation Centre. “At the beginning, we walked past the Disneyland theme park sign and we all complained that we wanted to go there instead, but at last I realized that I like nature and peace.” She said that among many of their activities they played number balls, atoms and dough ball and it was a lot of fun. She had a really great time and looks forward to next year’s activity day.

Everyone had an awesome activity day! All the classmates shared happy, sad, exciting and funny moments together!

Q: Did you enjoy Activity Day? Why?

A: Yes, I enjoyed it a lot! Our class had a lot of fun and bonded a lot during our activities.

Q: Except for fun, how did Activity Day benefit you?

A: Like I said, our class bond has improved and we have learned to cooperate and trust each other in the games we played. Also, we have learned how to organize activities for a large group.

Q: Where would you like to go for the next Activity Day?

A: Hmm… I’m not sure. But I guess I would prefer to do something that is not as physically exhausting.

The activity day is an extraordinary day at our school every year. Form tutors and their classes relax together on that day, and classmates get to know each other more and enjoy games. It was a new experience for the Year 6 to go on a special outing organized by their class committee. All Year 6 classes went to different places for the activity day, including the Peak, Inspiration Lake, Shek O and Tai Mei Tuk. Many looked forward to the activity day.

It was the morning of 7th November, when thrilled students and teachers began their memorable trip hoping for a day of amusement. Most enjoyed the day’s activities, which included a wide variety of  games, sports, photo taking and picnics.

It was also a good chance to make new friends in the class.

After all the activities and travelling, most of the classes had scrumptious lunches: picnics and barbeques.  There were bread, crispy Shao Mai and tasty marshmallows. Andrea, my classmate, told me that the barbeque was her favorite part of the whole day.

The activity day also taught some students to be more independent as students needed to take care of themselves during this valuable time.

Like anything, there is always room for improvement for next time. These are a few suggestions that were mentioned:

  • Find more information about the transportation beforehand

  • Design more games and activities to keep people interested for a longer time

This was a brand new experience for many Year 6s. The lunch was brilliant, as were the activities. Let’s look forward to the next activity day and think of improvements!
