Y9 Business Field Trip

Lillian Wu 9E

The Year 9 Business Studies students participated in a field trip in January at Cathay City Hong Kong. It was definitely a meaningful experience as we got to understand how one of the largest airlines operates, and it also broadens our knowledge in Business Studies.

Stepping into Cathay City, we immediately had the impression that it is nothing like a typical office building. Instead it does resemble a small “city” with its various shops, restaurants and even a hotel building beside. Our first visit was the canteen where Cathay staff takes meals on work days. Afterwards we headed over to the training centre where we were shown a flight simulator used for the training of pilots. Then we headed back to the office building where we observed the training of airport staff and flight attendants, and the most exciting part was probably getting to sit inside one of the model aircrafts used for flight attendant trainings.

Throughout the trip our guides told us facts about Cathay Pacific in all aspects, such as the airline company as well as staff working in the company, from the plane models used for Cathay Pacific flights to the requirements for applying to become a Cathay flight attendant.

The field trip was undoubtedly a rewarding experience for all Year 9 Business students, especially since it was our very first Business Studies field trip. It was especially amusing because none of us were familiar with the operations and training involved, even though all of us have taken flights quite a number of times. At the same time it provided us (who are new to the subject) with valuable business knowledge, and stimulated our interest in learning more about Business Studies. Although the field trip was relatively short and brief, all the business students have fully enjoyed it and benefited a lot from it, and it has definitely made us look forward to our upcoming business field trips.
