Jazz Club

Leader: Regina Chen (12A), Rachel Tang (12D)

As leaders of the Jazz & Lyrical Dance Club, we are really passionate about dancing. When we recruited members for the Dance Club, we were glad to see that many students also showed similar enthusiasm for dance.

Every class begins with a warm up session in the first half-hour when we practice and train our flexibility, strength and technical skills. We also challenge ourselves by working out our inner core muscles with perseverance. We usually pick a collection of popular songs to energize ourselves with an upbeat vibe whilst training our musicality and body coordination.

Through the dance practices, we have learned to express our emotions and feelings, along with the music, through body movements. We also take this valuable opportunity to de-stress from an overwhelming IB workload and academic pressure.

This term, we taught the dance “Counting Stars” by One Republic, which is quite a physically demanding routine as the fast pace adds difficulty to the piece. As leaders, we have developed our communication skills by explaining dance movements to our club members, who range from new dancers to experienced ones. We have also developed our leadership skills and built strong bonds with our club members! Overall, this is a really enjoyable and valuable experience and we hope to continue radiating positive vibes by expressing ourselves through DANCE!!!
