Rugby

To some, Rugby is a brutal game where people intentionally rough each other up just to be manly. Well, this is not the whole story about the sport. Rugby is, in my opinion, a very competitive and disciplined sport. This is a sport where teamwork and sportsmanship are required to prevent any injuries and most importantly, win the game!

In CKY, Rugby is a newly introduced sport, and for the past 4-5 years, students have shown considerable interest. CKY Rugby Club focuses mainly on tackling Rugby 7's instead of Rugby 15's. Rugby 7's requires strength, power and also a great speed to excel. CKY has been taking part in various inter-school rugby tournaments, and is a rising star in their respective leagues.

A number of promising stars have been showing dedication to help the teams reach their ultimate goal, that is,  to win it all. The most improved player in this past season would definitely be Andrew Tang from Y11. Andrew may not necessarily be physically gifted, but the effort that he puts into training, day-in and day-out, in the gym has undoubtedly assisted him in the game. The body transformation is definitely one that he can be proud of. Other star players are Anson Li, Jackal Lo, Tszlam Ng and Chris Leung. These boys have been in our school's Rugby program since day one as juniors and seniors of the team. The much-improved stamina and most importantly, the high spirit and intensity, that they bring to every training session has helped the team to succeed.

Another reason for the rising success of the Rugby Club in CKY is the selflessness of its team members. Our team focuses on sharing the ball, with an emphasis on everyone getting touches proactively. We play hard! Another great asset we have throughout the years is the great leadership from CKY graduates. A graduate from 2014, Pong Chau, has performed brilliantly in reaching out to younger players in the CKY Rugby network, helping improve our skills such as setting a stable ruck, and giving tackling tips and lessons to the current players. This has been much appreciated!

To sum up, Rugby is yet to be the competitive sport as we would like it to be in CKY. Other sports still overshadow Rugby a bit which,  to a certain degree, may be the result of not having a turf field in CKY. Our trainings, therefore, have to be held in Kings Park and Tai Hung Tung Sports Ground. That being said, we are a promising team rising in the league, and with our love of the game, drive and will to succeed, CKY Rugby Team will always be a special team.

For new players who would like to join the team, please contact Ms Gee, Mr Chan, Mr Dell, Ms Wilson and Mr Cox for further information! We welcome anyone of you to the team any day! :)
